I have not visited Gimli but have participated in a writing group with someone of Icelandic descent and roots in Gimli. Her stories of community and family life were very evocative of Icelandic traditions. This is a great profile of an interesting community.
I'm an Icelandic Winnipegger. My family has had a cottage in Loni Beach, Gimli for over 100 years. It is designated heritage now. We are very proud of our heritage.

I grew up in Winnipeg and have been to Gimli a number of times. So glad you included the fish flies! They have to be seen to be believed. No story about Gimli would be complete without them. Thanks again for the masterclass.

I guess you couldn’t have given us a nicer ‘compliment’… Our genuine curiosity and respect for everyone we met (which naturally came from how they connected and opened with us) kept us going from day one to the very end of the trip.
