A Coast-to-Coast Journey to Explore How Canadians See Themselves and Their Country/Un viaggio da costa a costa per esplorare come i canadesi vedono se stessi e il loro Paese.

Our journey across Canada has begun. The idea is to cross this vast country from ocean to ocean, trying to understand — along the way — how Canadians see themselves, their land, and the world in this new, uncertain, and fascinating era.

We collected water from the Pacific Ocean at Jericho Beach in Vancouver, with the intention of pouring it — eight thousand kilometres from now — into the Atlantic on the shores of Newfoundland. There, we’ll in turn gather a bit of Atlantic water to carry back and return to the Pacific: a symbolic gesture, an imagined embrace linking the two edges of this immense country we’ll try to explore and share over the next two months.

Siamo partiti!

Il nostro viaggio attraverso il Canada è iniziato. L’idea è attraversare questo Paese immenso da un oceano all’altro, cercando di capire — strada facendo — come i canadesi vedano sé stessi, la loro terra e il mondo in questa nuova, incerta e affascinante era.

Abbiamo raccolto l’acqua del Pacifico a Jericho Beach, a Vancouver, con l’intenzione di versarla — fra qualche migliaio di chilometri — nell’Atlantico, sulle coste del Newfoundland. Là raccoglieremo a nostra volta un po’ d’acqua dell’Atlantico, da riportare indietro e restituire al Pacifico: un gesto simbolico, un abbraccio ideale che unisce le due estremità di questo Paese sterminato, che proveremo a raccontare lungo la strada, nei prossimi due mesi.

Grazie sin d’ora a chi vorrà seguirci, leggerci, commentarci e — perché no — anche contraddirci. La strada è lunga, e ogni compagnia è preziosa.
